Pond Dipping

Bring it on!

Our man made lake is teeming with wildlife. How did it get there –we simply filled the lake with water? How do the creatures change according to season? Which animals come to use our pond to hunt for food or simply to drink? How many can you spot?

The lake provides a wealth of programme ideas for Beaver scouts; Rainbows and younger school children alike - the Water Cycle; identifying insects and aquatic life; tracking in the lakeside mud; bird watching and an introduction to water safety. Collect, look, identify and log but please replace any scooped water samples back into the lake.

Party size and age

Party Leaders are welcome to conduct their own Risk Assessment which will determine appropriate numbers for your group and age range.

What to wear

Loose clothing; bring a coat, possibly Wellington boots. Adults might wish to bring a towel and some spare clothing for their charges just in case they take "pond dipping" too literally.

Take it away!

The scope of opportunities are enormous. If you would like to share your ideas and resources with others we will post them on the web.
