British Safety Council Health & Safety At Work Level 1
Course Description
This nationally recognised qualification is aimed at all employees and pre-supposes no former knowledge of H&S.
The qualification provides participants with a basic knowledge of health and safety in the workplace, including the
duties of employers and employees under UK health and safety legislation. The key elements covered are:
- Legal duties of the employer
- Employee duties to contribute to safety in the workplace
- Workplace welfare arrangements
- Risk Assessments
- Risk Management
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Hazardous substances
- Safety Signs
- Fire extingisher use
- Manual handling
- Display screen Equipment (computer monitors)
- Reporting procedures including "near misses"
This is a one day course which can either be held at our Training Centre or at the customer's own premises.
Course content is supplemented by a Handbook for future reference.
Who should attend
All staff who are to be given any H&S responsibility within their organisation.
(In total there are 6 levels of award and this should be regarded as the entry point.)
Organisations may wish to consider nominating other employees as by doing so the employer is able to
demonstrate that they have taken reasonable steps to bring H&S to the attention of staff.

Certification
The day ends with a one hour multi-choice paper which is marked externally by BSC.
Successful candidates are awarded their Level 1 certificate.

Corporate customers: £75 per person. Charity employees and school staff: £50 per person.
