Course Description
As the name implies this course covers key life saving skills and an introduction to basic first aid for youth leaders.
The key elements covered are:
- CasuaIty Assessment
- Life saving priorities (DRSABC)
- Dealing with an unconscious casualty
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Fractures
- Hypothermia
- Bleeds; Burns; Choking and Shock
- Post incident reporting
This is a one day course which incorporates the adaptation of standard first aid techniques as appropriate for young people.
It is accepted by both the Scout Association and Guide Association. Course content is supplemented by a Handbook for future reference.
(Note that this course is the equivalent of the Scout Association’s
Level 4 First Aid Staged Badge and is suitable for delivery to scouts aged 14+)
Who should attend
Youth leaders who, as part of their normal duties, do not already hold either the HSE 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
qualification or the HSE 3 day First Aid at work qualification.
(Both qualifications are aimed at the delivery of First Aid for adults and First Aid Providers are not
obliged to include first aid for young people.)
What to bring/wear
Pen, paper; lunch. Wear casual clothing (ladies should wear trousers/shorts.)
Certification
On successful completion of the course those aged 16+ will receive a qualification in First Aid valid for 3 years.
Prices
Scout/Guide and other registered youth groups £20 per person. Maximum number of participants 12.
