Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS)

Course Description

There are two separate courses –an Initial course and a Refresher course.

The scheme, which is controlled by the Community Transport Association, has the objectives that minibus drivers will be: This is a one day course designed for drivers of standard minibuses ie those which have not been adapted for wheelchairs. We do not offer the accessible minibus scheme.

Who should attend

Anyone who as part of their work or as a volunteer, drives a minibus (minimum age 21 with 2 years full licence).

What to bring

Current driving licence (both paper copy and photocard if applicable); pen and paper; light lunch. Spectacles/contact lenses if worn.

Certification

On successful completion of the course, candidates are awarded a standard Midas certificate which is valid for 4 years, at which time a Refresher course should be attended. The certificate is recognised by other MiDAS member organisations.

Prices/ course delivery

£75 per candidate. This includes a MiDAS Handbook and Certificate. For either the Initial MiDAS course or the Refresher MiDAS course -minimum number 6; maximum number 12. (We cannot mix Initial and Refresher candidates.)

We appreciate that the most significant cost is downtime, or for schools the necessity to buy in supply teaching staff. By working with you, for example by undertaking the basic administration prior to the course rather than on the course day; and our supplying additional qualified Assessors and additional minibuses for the practical element of the course, we can help you to manage down your overall costs. We are also able to deliver split days or at the weekend.

We also offer to assist Operators to ensure that their operating procedures are appropriate.

There is a separate subsidised scheme available for scout groups within the former Avon area, please contact us for details.
